New York Daily News reports that 800 unsold pianos are stored at Steinway & Sons factory in Astoria, where workers layoffs has begun. Steinway & Sons president Lloyd Meyer says in his interview for the article: “Artists tell me we’re building the best pianos in 20 to 30 years. The price isn’t an object. You either build a Steinway or you don’t. It’s the piano music is written on, performed on. It’s what everything else is judged against. If Steinways were to cease to exist–it would be just awful.”
