Before his first public recital in 12 years, pianist Vladimir Horowitz tells a New York Post reporter: “For 20 years I played on the same piano and I wanted most, most, most to choose a new one. I will be playing a new Steinway for the first time. I love it more than any other. It is more mellow, more like the human voice.” This statement for press marks Vladimir Horowitz’s transition from his previous Steinway & Sons grand piano CD 347 to the new CD 186 (“the piano with the voice of Mattia Battistini”).
