Pianist Josef Hofmann receives the United States patent #2,263,088 to the improved piano action: “so constructed and arranged as to reduce to a minimum the undesirable friction between moving parts, and thus obtain a piano action which will operate with a quicker key return.” Steinway & Sons by that time has already adopted Josef Hofmann’s invention: it becomes the part of every Steinway piano from now on.
