- William Steinway cables Daniel Mayer: “Deeply regret cannot take Paderewski this year. Hope to make arrangement for the Chicago Exhibition year [1893].” This telegram either hasn’t reached Daniel Mayer, or has motivated him to immediate action (see the entry of March 16, 1891).
- Frederick A. Vietor, son of William Steinway’s niece Henrietta “Hettie” Steinway, and grandson of Albert Steinway, is born. He will grow up to become the inventor and the man in charge of all manufacturing operations at Steinway & Sons, and will also become indirectly responsible for the complete unionization of the company.
