Frederick T. Steinway hires the architectural company of Warren & Wetmore to design the new Steinway Hall building, to be built at 109–111–113 West 57th Street in Manhattan, across the street from Carnegie Hall. Warren & Wetmore, the designers of the Grand Central Terminal, are the most prestigious architects in the United States. Warren & Wetmore employee, architect W.L. Hopkins, takes charge of designing both the exterior and the interior of the new building. His instructions from Steinway & Sons are: “to secure and install the best of everything without any reference to the cost”. Steinway & Sons pays Warren & Wetmore $145,555.84 for Steinway Hall design.
