Frederick A. Vietor, a great-grandson of Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, is appointed the general manager of Steinway & Sons. (This appointment is probably Theodore E. Steinway’s way of keeping his cousin’s spirits up: instead of managing the company, Vietor is being hospitalized at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.)
