(or, by some accounts, June 23, 1822) – Having declined the promotion to sergeant, Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg receives honorable discharge from the army, and decides to open a cabinet-making business in a town of Goslar. However, before setting up his own shop, he must work five years as an apprentice, and then five more as a journeyman. Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg becomes an apprentice to a local organmaker, and also establishes a reputation of a skillful carpenter. The Chief Justice of the nearby village of Seesen is so impressed by Heinrich’s writing desk with inlaid drawers, that he buys it for a large sum of money.
