- William Steinway’s diary: “Inauguration of our new store with members of the Press and some Artists. Start at 1 Clock to factory with the guests show them around, Vogel assisting me though his leg hurts him very much. We then drove down to the store again, and sat down in large Room 2d story to a fine Collation, Toasts, speeches & splendid affair in every respect, I though being alone entertaining the guests handsomely.” A “Vogel” mentioned in this entry of William Steinway’s diary is Theodore Vogel, Steinway & Sons’ casework superintendent, married to Wilhelmina Steinway. Unbeknownst to anyone, he has less than three days left to live.
- William Steinway is the only member of the family present at the opening of the new Steinway & Sons showroom, because his brother Charles is severely ill with ear infection, and Henry Steinway, Jr. is still in Havana.
- Earlier on the same day, C.F. Theodor Steinweg and his wife have arrived to New York from Bremen. This is C.F. Theodor Steinweg’s first trip to America (paid for by the American branch of the family).
