William Steinway finalizes his purchase of the Pike Mansion and the surrounding land in Astoria, paying most of its $127,000 in cash. From now on that property will be known as “Steinway Mansion”. Eventually, the land and the house will belong to Steinway & Sons, even though William Steinway will keep some of the property for himself and his descendants.
