Anton Rubinstein performs in Steinway Hall for the first time. His musical support team, organized by Maurice Strakosch, includes violinist Henri Wieniawski; Mlle. Louise Liebhart, “the most popular soprano of the leading London concerts” and Mlle. Louise Ormeny, “a favorite contralto from the principal opera houses in Italy”, two more singers – Carlotta Patti and Signor Mario, and the eighteen-year-old piano virtuoso Teresa Carreño (five years later, in 1877, Teresa Carreño will tour the United States for Steinway & Sons). The soloists are accompanied by the “Full Grand Orchestra”, conducted by Carl Bergmann. Reserved seats for the debut performance sell for the record price of $3, and general (non-reserved) admission costs $1.5.
