William Steinway intensifies the promotion of upright pianos, giving them more space in the Steinway & Sons catalogue. The favorite is the “boudoir piano” a 3-foot, 10-inch upright “with a new detachable front portion, the action, keyboard, legs and feet being separate from the case, thereby permitting the piano to be transported up the narrowest of stair and smallest of doors.”
