Laurens Hammond, the inventor of the automatic transmission for automobiles and the 3-D cinema, receives the United States patent #1,956,350, to the “Electrical Musical Instrument”. The instrument, to be known as “Hammond Organ”, will soon be bought by every Steinway & Sons dealer for $600, and sold for $1,200 apiece.
