In Germany, C.F. Theodor Steinweg and Georg Friedrich Karl Grotrian sign a partnership contract. According to their agreement, C.F. Theodor Steinweg may not stop working without Grotrian’s permission, and Grotrian is not only entitled to one-third of C.F. Theodor Steinweg’s profits, but also to the full payment of the insurance taken on C.F. Theodor Steinweg’s life, and to the full ownership of C.F. Theodor Steinweg’s house, workshop, tools, materials, as well as all completed and unfinished pianos, should C.F. Theodor Steinweg be unable to pay for any reason. (Ironically, 32 months later, the partnership will be terminated by Grotrian’s death.)
