Patents granted to Gottlieb Daimler of Canstatt: No 334.109 Jan 12/86 Motor engines “ 349.983 Sept 28/86 “ “ “ 355.594 Jan 4/87 Apparatus Petrolore Verdunstung (Impregnating air with hydrocarbon vapors) “ 361.931 April 26/87 Explosive Gas Marine Engines for ships, boats “ 376.638 Jany 17/88 Engine driven Vehicles.” This diary entry indicates William Steinway’s active interest in the possibility of manufacturing Daimler’s internal combustion engines in America. A “Maybach” mentioned in the beginning of the entry is the famous Wilhelm Maybach, “the king of constructors”, a partner of Gottlieb Daimler.
