Theodor Steinweg expresses his gratitude to the family for the Christmas gift of money and a six-and-one-quarter octave Steinway & Sons square piano, a type that is “in much demand here”, and reports that he sells violins, and employs two instrument repairmen and two piano builders, who output about 10 pianos per year.
