Lumiere brothers hold the first public commercial cinema screening at “Salon Indien du Grand Café” in Paris. (Within the next few years cinema will spread through the world, and the need for music accompaniment of the silent films will boost piano sales, including the sales of Steinway & Sons pianos. Lyon & Healy, a Steinway & Sons dealer in Chicago, will offer a school for aspiring movie pianists.)
