Early 1891

William Steinway’s son George A. Steinway resigns from all his positions in his father’s businesses “for health reasons”, replaced by Louis von Bernuth, William Steinway’s son-in-law. This marks William Steinway’s giving up on his son as the inheritor of his crown. George A. Steinway receives an official leave of absence from Steinway & Sons, and takes a trip south with his wife and young daughters.
