New York Times: “All the piano manufacturers in the East are disgusted with the management of the World’s Fair. Steinway & Co. yesterday sent a letter to the World’s Fair authorities stating that their application for space was withdrawn and that they would not make any exhibit. This action was rather surprising to the piano trade because William Steinway had been very friendly to the fair. He gace $25,000 as a subscription to aid it. Nahum Stetson spoke for the house: “We are not unpatriotic, not do we wish to do anything that would put ourselves in a position unfriendly to the fair…. but we felt that we could not make the exhibit we would like to make in view of the small allotment of space to us. Then, too, we object to the manner of making awards which will be pursued by the fair authorities.”
