The relentless “Music and Drama” publishes yet another report: “The policy of the house, when William Steinway directed its affairs, was liberal, enterprising and fair-minded. Of late it has become illiberal, mean, unjust, oppressive and monololistic under the managemenrt of Charles F. Tretbar into whose hands the firm has now fallen.” This may be John C. Freund’s attempt to improve the deteriorating relationship with William Steinway, while still badmouthing Steinway & Sons.
