The striking union members hold a meeting at the Germania Assembly Rooms downtown, and decide to force their way into the Steinway & Sons factory and to stop at nothing to persuade Steinway & Sons workers to stop working and leave the shop. The strikers are prepared to destroy the machinery, tools, and the pianos in different stages of completion, and even to burn the factory, if necessary. In the meantime, William Steinway meets with police captain Gunner, and makes arrangements to organize sufficient police force to counter the strikers’ attack.
