William Steinway’s diary: “Our Men meet and resolve (at the factory) with strong Majority to go to work tomorrow morning at 10 hours and ten percent advance. This is reported by the Spaniard Rivers (discharged by us) at the Mass meeting at Germania Assembly Rooms, which creates the wildest excitement, they resolve to come to the factory at 6 A.M. to prevent our men from working Ziegler calls upon me at 10½ P.M. to inform me of this”.
