William Steinway’s diary: “trouble with Kroeger yesterday and this A.M. who expected his full salary of $6000 though I only allowed him $5500.” After William Steinway refuses to restore Kroeger’s salary to $6,000, Kroeger gives him one month’s notice. William asks Kroeger to remain with Steinway & Sons until C.F. Theodor returns from Europe, and Kroeger agrees. He will continue working as the factory manager for approximately 5 more month.
