March 23–26, 2012

The Piano for Peace event, organized by DDB Tribal in collaboration with Steinway & Sons and the Hilton Amsterdam, commemorates John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s legendary Bed-In event that took place in 1969. The microsite www.pianoforpeace.com connects the scene with the web community. Through the computer keyboard of any Internet-enabled computer, people play the Steinway & Sons Imagine Series piano from anywhere in the world through use of a custom-built robot arm – thereby sending their own personal musical message of peace. From March 23 through March 25, musical pieces are recorded on the microsite and uploaded along with an optional photo. On March 26, during the anniversary of the Bed-In, the songs are played on the Limited Edition piano, while the image of the respective pianist will appear on a screen above the historic bed. The pieces played are documented on the microsite, to be available after the event.
