Henry Steinway, Jr. writes to his brother C.F. Theodor: “William is on an amorous jaunt to Buffalo where his sweetheart lives, whom he will probably marry in May, and who is supposedly very pretty and very rich. She is German, of course, and her father is the richest brewer in Buffalo. The two met during the last Sangerfest there and fell terribly in love with each other.” In the same letter Charles Steinway provides his view: “I have to tell you that William came back from his engagement trip to Buffalo yesterday and that he will marry there three weeks from now. The girl is very young and very pretty, and has $50,000. As we say here, she is a good catch.”
