  • The construction of the foundry is finished on the Steinway & Sons land in Astoria – this is the first manufacturing building on the site of what will eventually become Steinway & Sons piano factory as it is known today.
  • William Steinway’s diary: “With Albert at farm First trial of foundry, Cupola & blower work splendidly. Cast our old Scrap Iron into Pig Iron. We nearly have a fire wood work of Roof too near Cupola, we knock it out, to be replaced with sheet Iron”.
