William Steinway’s diary: “In forenoon Dr. Langmann sent a Mr. Emil Reyher of 116 Lexington Ave, […] I have a long talk with him, with a view of his becoming the traveling attendant of my son George.” As is clear from this diary entry, William Steinway is making arrangements for George’s therapeutic sea voyage. Ultimately, instead of Emil Reyher, William Steinway will select a former Steinway & Sons employee, Howard R. Burk, as George’s companion.
