C.F. Theodor Steinweg receives the United States patent # 126,848 to the “duplex agraffe scale for grand piano”. Even though Steinway & Sons pianos have already been known for their bright, sparkling tone, C.F. Theodor Steinweg has figured out how to further improve it, by adjusting the length of the dead end strings to make them produce consonant sounds, and in that way strengthening the partials. (Eventually this technique will be used by the majority of the world’s piano manufacturers.)
