Town Topics – a New York gossip newspaper – publishes an article questioning William Steinway’s reputation: “discoveries made since his death have shattered the reputation of a New Yorker who had posed for years as a millionaire, patron of the arts, a financier, a philantropist, a public official and the head of a great manufacturing company… Never a day passed but that the name Steinway was mentioned in some newspaper. No name was more respected in business circles.”
