First record of problems with bushings made of low grade felt, resulting in decreased quality of piano action, and growth of the production cost. The foreman of the action department Walter Drasche orders his department closed, until he can figure out what’s causing the problem. Only much later the management will find out that Steinway & Sons’ action felt supplier, Amercan Felt Company, have been sold to a low-grade felt maker. (The problem with low-grade felt bushings will persist well into the 1950s.)
