William Steinway’s diary: “At 630. AM by rail to Leominster, inspect our factory property, splendid water power, leave memorandum for building purposes, see Hale’s factory.” This is the first indication that William Steinway intends to rebuild the piano plant at Leominster, Massachusetts he has recently bought from the former owner. (The construction will begin, but the plan to open a Leominster factory will eventually be abandoned, after the devastating fire.)
