  • New York Times reports from the concert of Sebastian Bach Mill with Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra: “Mr. Mills, the pianist, gave us the geatest treat of the programme, the concerto, in F minor, by Chopin, a work of exquisite beauty, and too seldom heard in the concert room. In the present day the piano-forte has a new significance as an orchestral instrument, owing to the immense improvements which have been effected in its mechanisms and the volumes of tone, which is the natural result of those improvements. The superb Steinway instrument, on which Mr. Mills performed, imparted a character and dignity to the recitative of the Adagio movement, which was utterly unattainable in days of old, on an Erard.”
  • Philadelphia Evening Bulletin reports from the same concert: “The Steinway pianos were again the object of admiration, for the power and brilliance of their tone, and the perfect tune in which they remained throughout the concert, notwithstanding the severe trials they were exposed to by playing of so much power”.
