Theodore Edwin Steinway, William Steinway’s second son from the second marriage, and the future president of Steinway & Sons, is born. William Steinway chooses the middle name for his son, Edwin, after Edwin Booth, the founder of the “Players Club”, and William Steinway’s favorite actor. (Years later, Theodore E. Steinway, passionate about theater, will join the Players Club, and will remain its member all his life.)
