C.F. Theodor Steinweg threatens to resign: “as soon as C grands have become good pianos and all improvements have been made, I shall resign as Director, as at the age of 63 I experience a marked decrease of my strength and shall probably not be able to do anything useful any more for the company”. In the same letter he also writes: “If we paid him out, the brat would be capable of making pianos under the name of Henry Steinway or to have them made, and this would be even more of a disaster for you. […] Strictly separate your private matters from the cash of the firm.”
