  • Steinway & Sons industrial complex in Astoria has expanded, already including a sawmill, iron and brass foundries, and metal works. The local main street is now called “Steinway Avenue”. A private telegraph connects Steinway & Sons factory in Astoria not only with the Fourth Avenue factory in Manhattan, but also with Steinway Hall.
  • William Steinway orders to dredge a quarter-mile long canal, 150 feet wide (currently known as Steinway Creek), allowing to keepĀ millions of square feet of logs in a floating storage. Nearly two thousand feet of seawall protect the shoreline from eroding into Bowery Bay and the creek.
  • New York secondhand piano dealers from this year on advertise Steinway & Sons brand at the top of the list of all the piano brands they sell. Chickering & Sons pianos come second.
